On our franch, you will find a horse, cows, chickens, goats, sheep, dogs, cats, fish and hermit crabs. \u00a0Doesn\u2019t that sound like enough? \u00a0Our children don\u2019t think so. \u00a0Each of God\u2019s creatures offers a unique kind of relationship for a child. \u00a0So, with every birthday or holiday, it seems my husband and I almost always consider adding yet another kind of creature to that list. \u00a0Our most recent addition to our children\u2019s list of loved creatures that they can call their own is an adopted bat named\u00a0Cornelius. \u00a0Yes, I said, a bat. \u00a0Before you say \u201cI would never\u2026\u201d you should know that bats are among the most misunderstood of animals but one of the most fascinating and ecologically indispensable animals on Earth. \u00a0Anyway, we were a little smarter choosing this gift for the children. \u00a0The children own the bat yet it remains at a bat sanctuary that\u00a0rescues, rehabilitates, and provides a sanctuary for bats like Cornelius that can\u2019t return to the wild. \u00a0Well, it\u2019s been some time now since the bat became a part of our family. \u00a0And, our youngest daughter\u2019s birthday is next month. \u00a0So, is it\u00a0time to get a\u00a0baby pig wearing a\u00a0big red ribbon?<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
