I was in the local feed store, again, and was considering buying a different brand of a stock tank float valve. \u00a0We were having issues with our float valves installed on the water troughs at the franch. \u00a0So, I figured perhaps it was time to invest in the more expensive brand. \u00a0I caught the eye of an employee walking by the aisle and asked, \u201cMay I ask you a question about these float valves?\u201d \u00a0There was an awkward silence, as he seemed to be considering something about me, and then, he finally responded, \u201cYes, as long as I can ask you<\/em> a question too?\u201d \u00a0\u201cUm, okay,\u201d I said curiously, slowly nodding my head. \u00a0He\u00a0gave his opinion about the choices of float valves on the shelf. \u00a0He mentioned the one we already have on our water troughs is purchased the most and how he has rarely heard complaints about it. \u00a0So, the float valve, I guess, isn\u2019t to blame. \u00a0Yet again, the problem is likely something we\u2019re doing wrong. \u00a0\u201cThank you for your help,\u201d I said as I started to walk down the aisle. \u00a0But, he stopped me, \u201cNow my question for you\u2026,” and he smiled at me. \u00a0I felt awkward, wondering what he could possibly ask of me. \u00a0\u201cWell, I thought maybe\u2026\u201d my mind raced through some responses I needed ready\u2026\u201cyou\u2019d like a compost bin for free?\u201d \u00a0What? \u00a0A compost bin?\u00a0 I was super relieved that I hadn\u2019t interrupted to\u00a0blurt out, \u201cI\u2019m happily married!\u201d \u00a0Then, I laughed. \u00a0What was it about me that made him\u00a0think I\u2019m a woman looking to compost? \u00a0There were plenty of people in the feed store that morning, yet he choose to offer a compost bin to me.\u00a0 Most people when offered something free just say yes. \u00a0Instead, I questioned him as to why he had chosen me. \u00a0He explained how he sees me in the feed store all of the time so I deserved something for free for once. \u00a0They needed the room on the shelves for a new brand and this particular one wasn\u2019t selling fast enough, so it was mine if I wanted it. \u00a0I am not a lucky person by any means. \u00a0I don\u2019t win raffles or door prizes or any of the hundreds of contests entered over the course of my life. \u00a0Finally, it was my lucky day! \u00a0I know I didn\u2019t get a thousand dollars or a trip to Hawaii or tickets to an upcoming Spurs game \u2013 I jut got a compost bin. \u00a0But, maybe, this is the beginning of better luck in my life. \u00a0At the very least, we’ll likely have more\u00a0luck with our garden this spring.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
