The sun rises every morning over a\u00a0ridge in our back pasture. \u00a0This morning, as the sun neared the horizon, its rays were spread out making a glorious crown of light in the sky. \u00a0We didn\u2019t notice it at first. \u00a0Our attention was on the reason my son had rushed into our bedroom to awaken us. \u00a0Sometime in the night, our cow had given birth to a healthy baby boy. \u00a0Our children had rounded the corner of the barn on the way to do morning chores surprised to count three cows in our pasture instead of two. \u00a0We were all congratulating mama cow and wishing happy birthday to the little man when my son interrupted, \u201cIts name has to be Sunrise! \u00a0Look at that!\u201d \u00a0We watched as the sun slowly rose just beyond\u00a0the calf and his mother. \u00a0What a beautiful Sunrise! \u00a0It was sweet to see so many of our animals sharing in this moment with us. \u00a0The chickens had gathered nearby, all the sheep in the adjacent pasture were lined up along the fence, and the dogs were sitting on the other side of the pasture gate – all intently watching\u00a0mama cow bond with her calf in the morning light. \u00a0The horse meandered over and as he bent his neck to check out his new pasture mate, he nickered. \u00a0We all smiled. \u00a0Horse whisperers say that a horse nickers to give a friendly greeting. \u00a0So, our children translated his nicker into English for us. \u00a0\u201cHello, Sunrise!” the children said the horse said. \u00a0I\u2019m so thankful that we didn\u2019t miss the sunrise this morning. \u00a0Can you think of a better way to start a day?<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
