{"id":295,"date":"2014-11-21T06:26:57","date_gmt":"2014-11-21T06:26:57","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/franchlife.com\/?p=295"},"modified":"2014-11-21T06:55:20","modified_gmt":"2014-11-21T06:55:20","slug":"our-thumbs-are-only-light-green","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/franchlife.com\/?p=295","title":{"rendered":"Our Thumbs are only Light Green"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The knee stains on our overalls is proof that plenty of time is spent in our garden on the franch. \u00a0Over the last few years, we\u2019ve been blessed with decent harvests of, in alphabetical order, asparagus, beans, beets, broccoli, carrots, cauliflower, cucumbers, kale, lettuce, onions, peas, peppers, potatoes, spinach, squash, and tomatoes. \u00a0And\u00a0a single blackberry. \u00a0Sadly though, our thumbs remain only a light shade of green. \u00a0Why? \u00a0It\u2019s because of pumpkins. \u00a0Do you know pumpkins take a long time to grow? \u00a0Every year, for some reason, we are late in the planting of our pumpkins. \u00a0We don\u2019t seem to know how to count backwards. \u00a0Come October, we don\u2019t have any pumpkins to carve. \u00a0 It\u2019s embarrassing to have to take our children to the pumpkin patch down the road year after year. \u00a0This year, it was looking like our\u00a0pumpkins would actually ripen in time to make a homemade pumpkin pie\u00a0for Thanksgiving. \u00a0Our thumbs seemed a darker shade of green. \u00a0Then, an early deep freeze for South Texas last week killed our pumpkin vines! \u00a0Coincidentally, our family\u00a0recently read\u00a0in the\u00a0<em>The Little House on the Prairie<\/em>\u00a0series that Laura&#8217;s family\u00a0actually made a pumpkin pie with green pumpkins when an early October frost killed their pumpkin vines. \u00a0I\u2019m inspired, for a minute. \u00a0But, never mind, I am no Ma Ingalls. \u00a0So, will you please remind us next year (call, text, tweet, post or yell) to plant in early August. \u00a0Or is that still too late?<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/franchlife.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/11\/IMG_3619.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-medium wp-image-290\" src=\"https:\/\/franchlife.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/11\/IMG_3619-300x225.jpg\" alt=\"IMG_3619\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" srcset=\"https:\/\/franchlife.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/11\/IMG_3619-300x225.jpg 300w, https:\/\/franchlife.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/11\/IMG_3619-1024x768.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/franchlife.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/11\/IMG_3619-676x507.jpg 676w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The knee stains on our overalls is proof that plenty of time is spent in our garden on the franch. \u00a0Over the last few years, we\u2019ve been blessed with decent harvests of, in alphabetical order, asparagus, beans, beets, broccoli, carrots, cauliflower, cucumbers, kale, lettuce, onions, peas, peppers, potatoes, spinach, squash, and tomatoes. \u00a0And\u00a0a single blackberry.
