When we were thinking of moving to our franch several years ago, our realtor showed us the fence dividing our land from our neighbors. \u00a0We agreed that it\u2019d be the first thing to fix. \u00a0\u201cGood fences make good neighbors,\u201d we all knew, remembering Robert Frost\u2019s famous poem \u201cMending Wall\u201d and Carl Sandburg advising, \u201cLove your neighbor as yourself; but don\u2019t take down that fence.\u201d \u00a0Well, we didn\u2019t get to repairing the fence right away, and three years later, it\u2019s actually a little worse.\u00a0\u00a0A bad fence gives you many opportunities to interact with a neighbor. \u00a0No doubt, you really get to know a neighbor when you are searching with flashlights late at night in your neighbor\u2019s back several hundred\u00a0acres for a cow that simply stepped over the leaning fence. \u00a0Over the last few years, we’ve learned\u00a0that it’s\u00a0nice with one less barrier to getting to know someone. \u00a0You may be surprised how much you like your neighbor! \u00a0Isn\u2019t it interesting that we may have hundreds\u00a0of followers on social networks, but not know if we walked by a neighbor in the grocery store? \u00a0\u201cLove thy neighbor as yourself\u201d \u2026 period. \u00a0There\u2019s probably a reason it\u2019s the second greatest commandment. \u00a0Let your fence fall into disrepair.<\/p>\n
