If asked to sing a Christmas carol, it isn\u2019t likely the first one that pops in your head is \u201cChristmas is coming, the goose is getting fat\u2026\u201d \u00a0But, now that I mention it, I bet you can sing the whole carol all the way through. \u00a0I know Christmas is over, but sing one last carol with me,<\/p>\n

Please put a penny in the old man\u2019s hat.<\/p>\n

There is a story here\u2026 The Monday before Christmas as I was writing my grocery list for the week, I said to my husband, \u201cChristmas is coming, what should I make for dinner?\u201d \u00a0I shouldn\u2019t have said it that way, because it rang a bell and he sang the tune, \u201cChristmas is coming, the goose is getting fat\u2026so a GOOSE!\u201d \u00a0\u201cNo way!\u201d I said even before he finished saying the word \u201cgoose.\u201d \u00a0Our eldest daughter was in the kitchen with us and had recently read \u201cA Christmas Carol\u201d by Charles Dickens in her literature class. \u00a0One of the most famous Christmas dinners of all time is the one on Bob Cratchit\u2019s family table. \u00a0So she sided with him, \u201cWe had a\u00a0Victorian-themed Christmas celebration at\u00a0school, mom, so we ne-eee-ed to have a goose for our Christmas dinner!\u201d \u00a0I sighed and looked at my husband, \u201cFine, you roast it, I\u2019ll eat it.\u201d \u00a0I don\u2019t know why my husband was so surprised when it turned out that a goose isn\u2019t easy to find. \u00a0I don\u2019t know anyone who has goose for Christmas. \u00a0But, unfortunately for the goose, my husband doesn\u2019t give up easily. \u00a0After a dozen or so\u00a0calls to local supermarkets and meat markets over a couple of days, he finally found a frozen goose one hour away! \u00a0So, on Christmas Eve, there\u00a0was a frozen goose on our counter. \u00a0It wouldn\u2019t fit at first in the refrigerator to thaw because I had that refrigerator stuffed full (partly because hidden on the bottom shelf was a ham I bought for a back-up meal should this goose turn out inedible). \u00a0My husband was rearranging the refrigerator when I noticed the price tag on the goose had been ripped from the package. \u201cHow much did this goose cost?!\u201d \u00a0I knew my husband was hiding it from me! \u00a0I managed to get my hand in his\u00a0pocket before he knew what was happening, and pulled out the torn tag, \u201c$76.74!!!!\u201d \u00a0Well, the tag didn\u2019t have the exclamation points, but it should\u2019ve! \u00a0I told my husband to get his new fedora out and get looking for some ha\u2019pennies! \u00a0Of course, my husband suggested we start raising geese on the franch for that price! \u00a0I didn’t say another word. \u00a0In the end, that very elusive and expensive goose thawed, and Christmas came, and, on our dinner table, I must admit, was a perfectly roasted and delicious Christmas goose!<\/p>\n
